Herpetic Uveitis: An Experience from a Tertiary Referral Center in Bulgaria

Introduction: The human Herpesviridae have been described as a leading cause of infectious uveitis. most common manifestations are keratouveitis and iridocyclitis. diagnosis is usually made on clinical grounds. present therapy based upon the inhibition viral replication use anti-inflammatory medications.
 Methods: A descriptive study was conducted records 206 patients with uveitis from Clinic Ophthalmology at University Hospital Alexandrovska, Sofia, Bulgaria. period January 2012 until August 2019. exam and, when necessary, specialized testing – PCR aqueous humor or vitreous material. We used statistical methods.
 Results: Out intraocular inflammation, 46 (22.3%) were diagnosed herpetic Of them, 35 (76.1%) had anterior uveitis, 7 (15.2%) panuveitis, 4 (8.7%) posterior mean age 45.3 years. complications ocular hypertension, corneal leucoma, retinal detachment, cataract. Antiviral acyclovir valaciclovir, alone corticosteroids, in all groups.
 Conclusion: herpesviruses important causative agents In our study, non-granulomatous, hypertensive entity. There also few panuveitis. VZV etiologic agent. panuveitis cohort worse prognosis for visual acuity, mostly result detachment. presented frequently focal retinochoroiditis good prognosis.
